START HERE: Q&A about my blog, beauty, and my dog!

Welcome to my FIRST BLOG POST ❤ thank you for stopping by!

I thought it would be a great idea to start this blog with a post telling you a little bit about myself: where the inspiration for my blog's name came from, why I started it, and how my makeup addiction started.

Who are you and what do you do for a living?
My name is Jordan, I am 26 years old, and I am an English teacher in the beautiful, quaint state of Connecticut... and I am OBSESSED with all things beauty!

Why did you start a blog?
I thoroughly enjoy reading and writing (hence English teacher).  However, since becoming a teacher, I really only have time to do leisurely reading for pleasure during my Summer break. Otherwise, my reading agenda is tailored to my students.  And while I've always loved writing, I never had an outlet for doing so creatively... until a coworker suggested blogging (who I also frequently chatted about beauty with).  It was like a light bulb went on! *Cue my brain exploding* It became clear to me in that moment that talking to fellow makeup addicts via blogging as a full time, 20-something, working woman on a budget, monetarily and in terms of time, was something a lot of others could relate to.

I have had an interest in makeup for as long as I can remember; my friends will tell you I started wearing lip gloss and eyeshadow in the fifth grade (shamelessly, might I add). In high school, I would experiment with bright colored eyeliners from MAC and drugstore shadows.  I distinctly remember the first time I experienced the glory that is Sephora: I purchased "The Big Fatty Mascara" by Urban Decay with the psychedelic packaging (anyone else remember this bad boy?!).

Where did the name of your blog come from?

Most of my friends and family are all but tapped out from hearing my incessant ramblings about makeup and skincare. So, I needed an outlet to talk about it with like-minded individuals, hence "beauty blog." My dog is also the love of my life and I liked having a title that rhymed.  Since I was
going to be sharing so much of my life with the internet already, I figured a sprinkle of cute dog photos never hurt anyone (and I may or may not be biased, but I happen to think I have the cutest dog in the universe).

What kind of dog do you have?
Sophie (#sophielunapuppy) is a Blue Bearcoat Chinese Shar Pei.  She has the softest fur, she's really good at snuggling, and she placed Top 5 at our local pet store for cutest pup! I adopted her from South Carolina when she was 12 weeks old and she arrived a few days after Thanksgiving. We've been inseparable ever since.

How did the beauty interest turn into a full blow addiction?
Please excuse my duck face...
This was circa 2010.
It was acceptable then... kinda.
Alright, picture this: February 2016 - my two best friends and I traveled to Chicago for a girls weekend to be reunited for the first time in 6 months. The sun was out, the weather was beautiful (yes, in February), and the wind was calm.

The first morning there, we had one very specific mission: get to the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Bar, get professionally-tamed brows. As we navigated through the department store, the ABH Brow Bar was calling to us from the back corner.  In an era of bold, thick Instagram brows, mine were seriously lacking: over-plucked tails (thank you terrible 90's fad) with a block end framing either side of my nose.  Pre-ABH Brow Bar, I had what I like to call the "upside-down comma, shaped like a rainbow" brow... BUT NOT FOR LONG!

The girls and I knew this was my moment - fresh, fleeky brows were in my very near future and of course, ABH did NOT disappoint! Post-ABHBB I had the eyebrows dreams are made of:

CAN I GET AN AMEN?!
When we arrived back to the hotel, I asked my best friend and fellow makeup addict, Taylor, to do my makeup to complete the look.  I looked in the mirror when she was done and felt a confidence and fierceness I had never known previously. Cue full-fledged addiction in less than 30 minutes. Next stop that day? Two Sephoras and an Ulta. I bought everything she put on my face and I have not stopped growing my collection ever since.

What are your favorite beauty products?
Stay tuned - to be announced in a future post! ;)
